Prince William Plans to Join UN Climate Conference in South America

Prince William plans to participate in the United Nations climate conference in South America in the coming weeks, according to the royal household.

The father and son duo appeared together on Thursday evening at a reception leading up to the environmental conference, which is planned for in the Amazonian city of Belém.

The King and Prince were in attendance at the Natural History Museum reception, marking an noteworthy combined presence at a pre-COP30 gathering arranged together with the UK government.

Environmental Advocacy Dedication

King Charles has been a longstanding advocate of protecting nature - and the Prince of Wales has inherited the mission, with his own climate innovation awards, which will be hosted in Rio ahead of the COP summit.

Royal sources have portrayed the Prince's participation at the upcoming climate summit as assuming an important role in "climate diplomacy".

Previous Activities

The King and Prince of Wales, arriving together in the state Bentley, were greeted guests including conservation experts, researchers, climate change campaigners, foreign representatives and politicians.

This engagement included speaking alongside President Emmanuel Macron of the French Republic and other global statesmen at the Ocean Finance Summit in the Principality of Monaco earlier this year.

Environmental Prize Link

The COP30 summit will dovetail with the the royal's climate innovation prizes, which will wrap up in the Brazilian city the eve of he participates in the COP summit on November 6th.

Last week the William described the award contenders as "heroes of our time".

Royal Climate Legacy

King Charles has been a prominent presence at earlier environmental conferences, delivering the inaugural speech in Dubai for COP28, including the observation: "Our responsibility is to protect the world we inhabit".

"Throughout my life I've dedicated a substantial portion of my life trying to alert people to the critical dangers facing us over planetary heating, climate change and ecological decline," the King told delegates.
